The Real Deal Music Show
Don CoulterIntroducing Don Coulter aka Denim Don...' Something to do with the dress code'.
Looking back over my 72 years I am very much aware that music has always been there. Possibly the only good thing my Old Man subjected me to was a love of music.
The Sunday request radio programme was the week's highlight. The first songs I remember that really jumped out as "Wow! What is that?!" were Rock Island Line and Big Grand Coulee Dam - The Lonnie Donegan versions. But only later in life did I discover where those two songs originated from.
Little did I realise at the time that a Scotsman who was unfairly pigeonholed as a skiffle band artist had introduced me to Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie.
Along with the likes of Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams and others, their influence still remains within the storyteller/singer/songwriter genre. This is the music that I have a passion for - I call it "The Real Deal".
Many of the stories wrapped within some of this music have led me to investigate further, to know more, through the internet and lessons on history, I would like to think presenting The Real Deal might instill that 'need to know more' itch in others.
As to my own musical talent, sadly I am a barely adequate rhythm guitarist and when the voices were being handed out I am not sure what they thought I asked for but they mucked up the order. However this does not stop me from subjecting any captured audience to my 'story telling'.
As a contrast to the love of sitting back listening to music, I race grass karts. The theory is that a dose of adrenalin, and a none too small touch of insanity keeps me 'feeling' even if it is a pain.
The Real Deal Music Show is on-air every second Wednesday at 6pm
