Family Crest · 2023-10-10

Raised in San Clemente, CA, a—if not the—hub for modern surfing in the continental United States, Kolohe Andino was born into surf culture. But the convenient location isn’t the only factor that shaped his relationship to surfing. Kolohe's dad and early coach, Dino Andino, is also a well-known surfer who competed in the nascent era of professional surfing. This episode, host Peter Flax explores the passionate relationship between father and son—the parallels and at times, tension—bound by a love for the water. Also featuring commentary from Kolohe’s coach, Mike “Snips” Parsons; and sister, Niah Andino.Family Crest is produced by The Red Bulletin magazine. This episode was written and produced by Peter Flax and Melissa Saenz Gordon, with help from Nora O'Donnell. Audio mixing, mastering and original music by Mauricio Escamilla. Executive producers for this series include Peter Flax and Branden Peters.
