I talk with Dr Harvey Kliman about his research and medical opinion when it comes to the placenta, pregnancy loss/stillbirth, & reoccurring pregnancies. He is a research Scientist in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the Yale University of Medicine and the Director of the Reproductive and Placental Research Unit with the following Research Interests: Pregnancy Complications and losses, Autistic Disorder, Endometrium, and Infertility.

Dr Kliman is the one who gave me some answers around Brody's death. He shed some light on what could have happened & how we prevent it from happening again. Without his placenta pathology report, I would still be going off of what my OB said, "he was perfect, this was freak, & it won't happen again." False.

Here's what we discuss:

His background and how he got hereDeveloping the Estimated Placenta Volume measurementsPushback from doctorsCauses of stillbirthCauses of a small placentaHow to monitor if your placenta is smallHow do approach doctors about EPVC***d & the placentaAnd so much more...

This is an episode for those who are curious about the placenta, who want to find answers, who also want to learn about other things outside of a small placenta, & to hear how we can prevent this from happening again in subsequent pregnancies.

Living the Loss Life

Formerly called "At a Total Loss" because when I first started this podcast just 4 months in, I was at a total loss. Literally. My first son, Brody, was stillborn at 37 weeks, and I didn’t know how I was going to survive. Now, a few years later, I’ve learned to live the loss life—and I want to help you do the same. This podcast is still a raw, real, and sometimes darkly funny look at what life after baby loss really feels like. From stillbirth to parenting after loss, navigating trauma, relationships, mental health, and everything in between—this is where we talk about the things no one else does. Whether you’re grieving, surviving, trying to make sense of it all, or just looking for someone who gets it… you’re in the right place.
This isn’t just grief support. This is loss mama real talk.
No fluff. No filter. Just you, me, and the truth about what it means to keep living when part of you is missing and what it takes to live the loss life carrying our babies with us.
